Spreadsheets make the world go around. This document describes Dense Analysis tips and tricks for how to work with spreadsheets quickly so you spend less time in them.

General Dense Analysis Advice

  1. Stick to default formatting where possible.
  2. Be mindful of color blindness and avoid similar colors.
  3. Do not waste your time.
  4. Use your keyboard, including a num pad if you have one. Touch type and learn to use the num pad with one hand.

Google Sheets

  • Press Tab to move to the right after an edit, and Enter to move a row below.
  • Insert a new row below with Alt + Shift + I, then R, then B. (May be Alt + I in Chrome.)
  • Auto-fill cells including formulae with Ctrl + D.
